What is Grace Reformed Presbyterian Church?

Our Name:

Grace Reformed Presbyterian Church (GRPC) is a Bible-believing Church. We hold that the Bible is the infallible, inerrant Word of God. We hold to the truths that God's Word teaches us: that God created man, that man fell into sin, that Jesus Christ came to save those whom God has called His own, and that one day He will return again. The Gospel message is one of Grace; our salvation was achieved for us by Jesus Christ apart from any merit of ours.

GRPC is a Reformed Church. Our heritage traces back to the practice and teaching of the churches of the Sixteenth Century Protestant Reformation. We are a member church of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. “Ortho” comes from the Greek language and means “straight.” “Dox” is also a Greek term and means “thinking.”

GRPC is a Presbyterian Church. “Presbyterian” is derived from another Greek word, “Presbuteros,” meaning elder. GRPC is governed by a Session of Elders, whose primary task is to care for the spiritual well-being of her members.

Our Standards:

Grace Reformed Presbyterian Church subscribes to the doctrinal standards set forth in the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger Catechism/Shorter Catechisms.

Please take time to read through these standards. They are of immeasurable value to the church of Jesus Christ, particularly in our anti-doctrinal age.

Left without a clear statement of Scriptural doctrine, the people of God are needlessly hobbled by ambiguity, vagueness, and in many unfortunate cases today, grievous error.

Our Worship:

Worship is the most profound activity of the Church. When we gather as God's people, God says that He meets with us. The meeting is a dialogue; we speak to God in prayer and in song, and God speaks to us especially in the reading and the preaching of His Word. This event is a “service”; we come to serve God by offering to Him our hearts, minds and bodies. Since those who worship must do so in spirit and in truth, we are careful to include in our worship only those things which God has declared are proper. We are also mindful to offer this worship in faith, trusting that it is received as pleasing to God through Jesus Christ. We invite you to join with us in worshiping our glorious God!

Our Mission:

Our mission was given to us by our risen Lord: “Disciple the nations!” We are committed to the Gospel's advance throughout the world: bringing people to trust in Jesus Christ alone for their salvation, and teaching them to obey Him in every part of life. We have a keen interest in world wide mission efforts, and frequently send the pastor and some members on short term mission trips. God has placed us in Des Moines, so our first and closest field of work is here. It is our goal locally to proclaim the excellencies of our Savior to those we encounter, whether as neighbors, friends, co-workers, or family.

Our Pastor:

The Rev. Rodney T. King has been the pastor of our church since February of 1997. He was educated at King College (Bristol, TN) and at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, NC), and received his theological training at Reformed Seminary (Jackson, MS). Ordained in 1974 by the National Presbyterian Church (the name of the PCA for that year), Pastor King had previously pastored several churches in the Southeast and one in the Southwest. He and his wife (Anne) are the parents of four children, and glory in the role of being “ Gramps and Granne ” to nine grandchildren.
